Waterfront Living on the Broadwater

Labrador is a coastal suburb in the City of Gold Coast, overlooking the Gold Coast Broadwater to the east and Southport to the south. Robert Muir named the area in the late 19th century after a Canadian fishery, owing to similarities in recreational fishing and peninsula shape. In April 1878, Muir and John Lennon bought 139 acres of Crown Land, surveyed and sold as 'Mr Muir's Central Southport Estate'. The Labrador Hotel was built c.1881 and Labrador House in 1883. The Grand Hotel, built 1886 overlooking the ocean, became a local landmark. In the 2021 census, Labrador had a population of 18,643 people.
